Upcycled Octopus

This oh-so-cute octopus can be made with a recycled empty toilet paper roll and leftover tissue paper from past birthday parties.

What You’ll Need:

  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • Craft glue or glue gun
  • ½ sheet of purple tissue paper or 1 sheet construction paper
  • 2 googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Black Sharpie
  • 8 sequins (optional)

Simple Instructions:

If using tissue paper, fold so there are 2-3 layers so it is not as transparent. Cut the purple tissue paper or construction paper so it is just slightly longer than the length of the toilet paper roll and is wide enough to surround the roll completely. Glue the paper to the outside of the roll with just a small amount of excess at the bottom (1/4 inch or so). Make 8, 1 ½ inch vertical slits around the bottom of the roll to make the 8 tentacles. Fold upwards so they serve as the base of the octopus. Glue 2 googly eyes about 1/3 of the way down the octopus body and draw a smile with a sharpie. If you would like to add a little “bling,” glue sequins to each tentacle.
