Make working out a family affair by incorporating your kids! Parents lead by example and kids will model their behavior. Getting active and having fun with your children is a great alternative to traditional workouts.

o Have a Ball- Using a basketball, soccer ball or medicine ball, you can do some simple but effective exercises.

Squat and toss: stand 4-5 feet apart, legs wide and squat and toss the ball to each other

Partner ab crunches with a ball: lie on the ground with knees bent and toes touching. Simultaneously do a crunch and then toss the ball to your partner.
o Mirror Mirror – By facing each other while you exercise, you can encourage each other to keep pushing.

Patty-cake push-ups: Face each other in a knee push-up position and do a push-up and then slap each other’s hand. Repeat as many times as you can.

Follow the leader: Take turns leading and following. One partner does different moves and the other follows (i.e. jogging in place, push-ups, squats, etc.)
o Drills & Thrills- Make your own obstacle course with things you already have around the house – cones, tunnels, chairs, balls & more. Time yourself and see if you can get faster each time you go through the course.
o Freestyle!–Dust off the hula hoops, jump ropes, bikes, scooters or whatever inspires you to get moving. Blast your favorite tunes and have a dance party! Take the dogs for a long walk. Hit the backyard or a neighborhood park and play a family pick-up game of soccer, basketball or volleyball. |
