When your recycling bin is filled with plastic water bottles, use them to make kid-friendly lava lamps.
Items Needed:

Recycle water bottle

Vegetable oil
-
Water
-
Food coloring

Alka Seltzer tablets

Simple Instructions:
Fill a recycled water bottle with ¾ cup water and the rest of the way with vegetable oil. Add about 10 drops of food coloring. Add ½ of an Alka Seltzer tablet and watch the lava lamp appear. Originally the oil sits on top of the water because it is less dense. When the tablet is added, it creates gas and the gas bubbles rise taking the colored water with them.
